Designing for Social Good

What happens when the Chicago design community comes together to use their powers for good? Great things happen! Last November, we were lucky enough to partner with the Design Museum of Chicago and Eight Bit Studios for an all-day Designathon.

Participants of all design disciplines were asked to volunteer their time and creative skills to collaborate and help advance our non-profit’s mission across the digital landscape (a website, ad campaign, animation, etc). Little did the designers know when they arrived that day that our organization, then the Ferrer Foundation, had just undergone a rebrand and identity change. The designers had a unique opportunity to preview our new name and logo, designed by the incomparable Rick Valicenti of Thirst.

One For One Chicago was officially (and quietly) debuted with the group that day, and designers worked in small teams for 12 hours straight to learn about our organization and brainstorm ideas around the rebrand and elevating our cause.

At the end of the day, the design teams presented their work, and we were blown away with what was produced! One presentation after another had inspiring creativity and thoughtful ideas for us to consider. We felt like we had won the lottery! The coolest, most unexpected thing that happened was we were able to engage with one of the teams post-event, and the website you are looking at was created by that team.

We want to also express our sincere gratitude to Tanner Woodford and the Design Museum Of Chicago, along with the entire kick-ass team from Eight Bit Studio, for dedicating their time, energy and resources toward organizing such an impactful event-one that will always be a part of the evolution of our organization.
